Rhodes and Company close out the Rocky Mountain Review with a win over the Jazz!

You can't stop Chucky! Charles Rhodes had 15 points, 1 block, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, 2-2 from the line, 1-1 from downtown and had an overall pct of 6-8.

Gerald "Cupcake" Green, 11 points,1 block, 1 steal, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, 1-2 from downtown, perfect from the line hitting all 4 of his attempts, with an overall 3-11 pct.

Aaron Miles, determined to leave his mark had 10 points, 2 steals, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, 2-2 free throws, and an overall night with 4-5 shooting.

Reyshawn Terry ended the summer league with my vote for a spot in the big boys club, solid as always Terry had 9 points, 3 blocks, 2 steals, 1 assist, 6 rebounds, 4-5 from the line, 1-2 behind the arc, and 2-6 overall.

Shan Foster rolled over his game from last time and had 9 points as well, 1 steal, 2 assists, 8 rebounds, 4-4 from the stripe, 1-4 from downtown, and 2-7 overall.

Jajuan Smith finished his summer league experience off nicely, with 8 points, 1 steal, 5 assists, 2-3 with the long ball, and 3-9 overall.

5 points from Reggie Williams, and 4 a piece from Derrick Low and Courtney Sims, congrats Mavs Summer Boys for finishing up an overall impressive Summer League Showdown.

Good Luck finding your way to the big leagues!

Not time to cry, Mavs put a hurting on NJ summer squad.

Woo hoo!
Did you see Charles Rhodes?!
Chucky came off the bench with 21 points, 2 steals, 5 rebounds, 5-6 on free throws and an overall 8-10 night of shooting, very nice!

Of course if he is not the leader of the pack Cupcake Green is always somewhere near by, and tonight was no exception, Gerald had 16 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, 4-4 from the line, 2-4 from behind the arc and 5-12 shooting.

Reyshawn Terry, every game this guy plays hard, following close behind "Cupcake", Reyshawn had 12 points, and 12 rebounds! you read it right! a double-double for I.R. Terry, he was also 1-1 at the line and behind the arc, with an overall 5-10 shooting night.

Can D. Low come out and play? Evidently! Low had 9 points, 1 rebound, 1-1 from downtown and shot a nearly perfect 4-5 overall, maybe there is more to come from him?

The limelight has faded slightly around Shan Foster, but he had a decent game, with 7 points, 3 steals, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, 1-1 from long range, but a hideous 2-7 was his overall.

The battle to decide the difference between Aaron Miles, and Jajuan Smith continues, as they both had decent games, Miles finished with 6 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 for 5 shooting.

Smith also finished with 6 points, only his was on a wreckless night of shooting (2 for 12)
but he did top Miles with 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 2-5 from the arc... not bad.

Watkins had 6 rebounds, 1 block and missed both of his shots.
Williams had a turnover and missed his only shot..
and Courtney Sims rounded it out for the Mavs with 4 points, 1 assist, on 2-5 shooting.

The Nets had 4 guys in double digits, the infamous guy that Cuban slept on Chris Douglas-Roberts (16 points.) Brook Lopez (12 points) Ryan Anderson and Jaycee Carroll with 10 points a piece.

Post no 50! unfortunate circumstances follow.

Dallas Mavericks Summer Boys lose out to Golden State with a devastating 90-73 game.

"The Green Cupcake" led the way for the guys once again, taking charge with 17 points with 5-12 shooting, 1 blk, 3 turnovers, 1 stl, 2 asst, 2 rebs, 5-6 ft, 2-4 from downtown.

Reyshawn Terry has been solid all summer long with this game being no exception.
He had 14 points with 5-11 shooting, 2 blks, 3 turnovers, 8 rebs, 4-5 ft.

Darryl Watkins had a impressive game, defensively with 2 pts, 4 blks, 2 stl, 1 asst, 8 rebs, 2-2 fts, 0-3 overall

As did Reggie Williams with 11 pts, 1 stl, 1 asst, 4 rebs, 6-8 ft, 1-3 downtown, 2-5 overall

Others-
A Miles 7 pts, 3 asst, 2 rebs, 1-3 ft, 3-7 overall
R Frahm 6 pts, 2 turnover, 2 asst, 4 rebs, 2-5 downtown, 2-6 overall
C Rhodes 6 pts, 1 stl, 5rebs, 2-2 ft, 2-5 overall
C Sims, 3 pts, 4 rebs, 1-2 ft, 1-4 overall
D Low, 3 points, 1 reb, 1-2 downtown, 1-4 overall
S Foster 2 pts, 2 to, 2 asst, 1 reb, 0-1 downtown, 1-7 overall
JJ Smith, 2 pts, 1 asst, 0-3 downtown, 1-4 overall

Unfortunately it was not enough to stop the Warriors, GSW had three players not named Marco Bellinelli (did not play) that were just on fire, mostly from the free throw line and second chance points 20-8.

Anthony Randolph 20 pts, 7 turnovers 2 stls, 5 asst, 6 rebs, 14-17 ft, 3-11 overall
Anthony Morrow, 27 pts, 5 asst, 10 rebs, 5-6 ft, 4-5 downtown, 9-16 overall
Jamont Gordon 20 pts, 5 t.o., 2 asst, 5 rebs, 4-7 fts, 2-4 downtown, 7-14 overall

Thus with numbers like that overcoming the Mavericks, but fear not there is still more Mavs action to come in the Rocky Mountain Review!

The Ghost of Christmas Past!

Mavericks summer league team loses out to the Warriors 90-73.
Gerald Green was his usual self with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, 2 assists, 2-4 from long range, and 5-6 from the line.

Reyshawn Terry proved to be one of the best players without ( or with for that matter) a contract from the Mavs yet again.
with 14 points, 2 blocks. 8 rebounds, 4-5 from the line and an overall 5-11 shooting pct.

There was life in Reggie Williams, he had an impressive game with 11 points, 1 steal, 1 assist, 6-8 on free throws, and even making 1 out of 3 from downtown.

Miles was the fourth highest scorer with 7 points, followed by Rhodes and Frahm with 6 a piece, Low and Sims each had 3, and Jajuan Smith and Darryl Watkins had 2 a piece.

Watkins was more impressive in other areas with 4 blocks, and 8 rebounds however.

Unfortunately this was not enough for that damn GS team.
Anthony Morrow has 27 points, Jamont Gordon and Anthony Randolph pitched in 20 a piece as well.

Next time gadget, next time.

The Dirk Petition.

The latest and greatest news out of the Dallas HQ does not come in the form of a trade or amazing free agent signing, but it does represent the dedication of Mavericks, and Team Germany fans a like.

A petition has been started to encourage those with the power to allow Dirk Nowitzki to carry the
German flag at the opening Olympic ceremonies in Bejing on August 8th, for those of you that would like to sign the petition

of course I signed it, but as I was signing I was thinking to myself, who else would do it?!
Dirk deserves this, not saying that any of the other German athletes don't deserve the honor, but I think Dirk deserves a tad bit more...

GO TEAM DIRK!!

The Green Man Gerald "Cupcake" Green does it again this time to San Antonio!

That's right, live it up Dallas!
Gerald Green and the Mavs summer league team ripped San Antonio a new one with a 84-77 game today, Green exploded on San Antonio shooting 5-9 from down town and 8-15, topping it off with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, 6-7 from the line.

Reyshawn Terry is dead set on stringing together some nice performances ending the game with 14 points, 4-9 downtown, 3 assists and 2 rebounds.

Singleton was the next highest scorer with 10 points, followed by new comer Darryl Watkins who had 9 points, and 3 blocks, and 7 rebounds, 1 steal!
Fellow new comer Courtney Sims had 8 points, 1 block, 1 assist and 2 rebounds, 1 steal.

Impressive game for Aaron Miles with 7 points and 8 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal.
Shan Foster had 6 points, 1 block and 5 rebounds.
Derrick Low finally got on the score board hitting his only shot which was a long ball, he finished his 11 minute stint with 3 points, and 2 assists.
Frahm had 2 assists and 5 fouls.

Jajuan Smith, Charles Rhodes, and Reggie Williams were inactive... but only Williams did not play.

Mavericks face GSW again tomorrow at 5:30 PM.

Out goes Seibutis, Sow welcome Darryl Watkins and Courtney Sims.

Seibutis unfortunately is just not NBA ready, having only played a handful of games over in Greece last year due to a injury, Ronnie still has plenty to learn before he his ready for the big boys, hopefully next off season when he is ready the Mavs will be ready for him.

Pape Sow also was not ready to be a Maverick, Dallas send him packing as well to make room for Centers Darryl Watkins and Courtney Sims.

And for those of you who are getting giddy, Keith Mcleod is simply on a vacation that is offered for veteran point guards.

Cheers!

Mavs take down Iran.

Not the way you think,
Yes, it's a tad bit late, but I am willing to make up for it with some amazing journalism, you ready?

The Rocky Mountain Revue started Saturday with the Mavericks and the Iranian National team.
Both teams exchanged gifts at half court as part of a cultural exchange.

And boy did they get a bit of culturing! Things started off slow for the Mavs being outscored in the 1st and 4th quarter 18-20 in the 1st and then 10-21 in the 4th.
However it was the two quarters in between that made the difference.

The Mavs outscored Iran 26-13 in the 2nd quarter, and then a ridiculous 25-8 in the 3rd!
Dallas was once again led by Super Dunker Gerald Green with 15 points and 1 assist, Aaron Miles had another impressive outing with 12 points and 6 assists, and another solid game for Reyshawn Terry with 11 points, for Iran Hamed Ehadadi was a monster with 19 points and 16 rebounds, where can the Mavericks find a gem like that? also Mohammad Nikkhah Ba finished with 16 points.

Singleton managed 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks and Frahm was 2-3 from downtown.. impressed?

Congratulations to Dirk, Chris Kaman and Team Germany.

Dirk Nowitzki did not do any interviews immediately after propelling Germany to its first Olympic berth since 1992. He couldn’t.

The Dallas Mavericks’ best player was in the locker room in Greece bawling Sunday, like a baby or newlywed or player who has finally delivered on a promise to his country, his coach and himself.

I unfortunately had to move this past weekend so I missed all of it, but congratulations to Dirk, there is not a person in the world that deserves more than this guy, Go Germany!

Dirk, Kaman, and team Germany close but no cigar against Croatia.

Nowitzki, Germans fall to Croatia

12:46 PM Sat, Jul 19, 2008 | | Yahoo! Buzz
Brad Townsend E-mail News tips

They staged a late rally, but Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki and Germany lost today to Croatia, 76-70, in the semifinals of the Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece.

The Germans have one last opportunity to qualify for the Olympics. They must win Sunday's third-place game against the loser of tonight's Greece-Puerto Rico game. If it's Puerto Rico, guess what? It would be Dirk vying against Mavs teammate Jose Barea for an Olympic berth.

At age 30, this is Nowitzki's best, and perhaps last, chance to qualify his country for the Olympics. Nowitzki scored 30 points today, but only two teammates reached double figures in scoring.

Well this is an unfortunate situation, how nice would it have been to have JJ and Dirk representing Dallas in the Olympics? in any case it feels wrong to choose sides, but I am pulling for Team Germany, not just because I am in love with the duo of Dirk and Kaman, but because Dirk won't have very many Olympic adventures in him after this, and he's been at it longer.

With that said, best of luck to both teams!

Friday, July 18, 2008

Kaman and Dirk are an unstoppable train!

In Germany that is, Just today the two combined for 32 points, and 21 rebounds to lead
team Germany to a 78-65 victory over Brazil.

Team Germany is now in the semi finals where they will face Croatia, making Dirk/Kaman one step closer to representing Germany for their very first time in the Olympics, which is a life long dream for Dirk, and realistic possibility for them both.

Good Luck Boys!

Malik Allen also signs with Bucks.

Allen of course was brought to Dallas in the controversial Jason Kidd trade, and averaged 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds last season, good luck in Milwaukee Malik.

Mavericks have made an offer for Artest.

Yes, Yes they did.

Unsurprisingly enough, Brandon Bass was offered along with Jerry Stackhouse for Ron Artest, no one has publicly admitted this is true, but.. you know it is.
Apparently the Kings aren't going to consider the deal without Dallas taking Kenny Thomas's contract... oh, and did I mention they want Josh Howard or no deal as well?

Well then, now you are in the know. I say play it your way Sacramento, keep Artest.. he'll whine and whimper for the rest of the season, or you can take what we offer and not get greedy.

You can find the original post here: http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sports/kings/archives/013902.html

Tyrron Lue signs with Bucks..

Bit of a step down from his original assumption that he'd go to the Suns, Heat or Celtics... oh well, Bucks offered him more money I guess, good luck Lue.

Gerald "Cupcake" Green Leads Mavs Boys of Summer to victory.

Gerald Green was having a rocky game Wednesday afternoon, until he turned into Batman, scoring 18 points. shooting 5 of 12.

Once again Charles "Chuckie" Rhodes was a solid player getting a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, oh yeah!

Rough game for Ronnie Seibutis who got to start again today, his line wasn't as impressive as Monday's game however, he finished with 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Quiet game yet again from James Singleton and Keith Mcleod the veterans that were offered roster spots Singleton getting just 8 points and 2 rebounds.

Mcleod's number not much better with 5 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds.

Reyshawn Terry was still pretty reliable coming off the bench with 7 points and a beastly 9 rebounds.

Shan Foster didn't have his best game with 6 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds but it was a nice contribution coming off the bench.

Aaron Miles came off the bench with 4 points, and 4 assists in 13 minutes of game play.

Richie Frahm proved he can shoot with 9 points, 2-3 from downtown and 2 rebounds... no assists however which is kind of a requirement for a point guard.

Pape Sow also looking better with 9 points, 6 rebounds.

The Jajuan Smith Saga continues, Jajuan came off the bench racking up 10 points on 2-5 shooting from downtown and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes.

Not too much of an impressive night for Reggie Williams and Derrick Low.

Williams playing just 4:50 and getting 2 pts and 1 reb.
Low once again didn't get on the score board shooting 0-2 with no assists and 1 steal in 7:18 minutes... perhaps they still have a chance to dazzle us if they can ever get anything more than garbage time.

Anyway the bottom line is, Mavs get it done again 93-71 and they have split their first 4 games of the summer 2-2.

Germany Duo do it again!

Today was a bad day for New Zealand... why? Because Dirk Nowitzki and his new sidekick Chris Kaman made it rain on them like no other, Dirk and C.K. combined for a total of 55 of the teams 89 points! are you kidding me?! that's incredible!

The teams third highest scorer would be Pascal Roller with 10 points.

Oh and another little tidbit, Marcus Camby was traded to The Clippers yesterday, this has true MFFL buzzing about the possibility of Kaman being traded, however it is rumored that the Clips plan to use either Kaman or Camby at the PF position in an attempt to replace Elton Brand...
Neither side of this is written in stone, but perhaps Cuban is now giving Mike Dunleavy a ring, and the two are having a little talk about getting the two Germans together in Dallas...

Too soon to dream?

Dirk and Kaman and Team Germany crush Cape Verde!

I guess it sounds mean when I put it that way.. good!
man I would love to this duo happen in Dallas!!!
Dirk only needed to bring 16 pts and 5 rebs to the table, and was able to sit out most of the second half, while Kaman had his usual double double 10 pts 10 rebounds.... hardly an explosion right?
wrong! Germany Hulk-Smashed Cape Verde 104-68... now that's not right!

Go Team Germany!

Mavs Boys of the summer give Wolves the business!

You might've noticed that I skipped the first two games of the Mavs Summer League and started with the 3rd game, this is simply because the first two games made me cry, that is an exaggeration, sort of.

First off the Boys 88-74 win over the Wolves doesn't sound too impressive, but the game wasn't always that close. especially not in the 1st half, The Mavs outscored the Wolves 48 to 30.
All of the guys are looked much more relaxed on the court, but this game was won mainly by the bench scoring over more than 50 points!

Reyshawn Terry put doubts about his performance to bed Monday night, stepping in from the bench and drilling in 15 pts and 4 rebounds, pales in comparison to Eric Gordon's performance the other day, but this was no one man show!

The biggest, and best unexpected surprise came from Jajuan (pronounced Joo-Wan) Smith, Exploding for 19 pts in 18 minutes, shooting 4-6 from downtown!

By the way, Shan Foster has game! before we were stuck having to just take Carlisle, Cuban, and Nelson on their word about Foster, but Monday he made me a believer.
when I describe him, the name Brandon Bass usually comes up, but this kid is making a name for himself, scoring 17 pts, and looking good doing it! no one is for certain what's going to happen with the last 1 or 2 spots left on the Mavs squad, but there is no way that Foster doesn't get one of those, having been pretty consistent thus far, hopefully he keeps it up, and carries it into the big boy league.

"Chuckie" Rhodes, I won't lie, I want to see this guy on the court with J-Kidd and The Big German! Rhodes is a beast, with a large body. for the past 3 games he has been a real eye opener.
Currently the Mavs roster is set at 14, but the Mavs (just like the defenders.) better make some room for the big nightmare himself Charles Rhodes.
That's right Shaq, move out the way, or Chuckie will dunk your hand off!!...
That too is an exaggeration, but with his ability to play back up for Dirk and Bass or even Damp and Diop (in special cases) Rhodes is a keeper averaging around 13 pts a game.

Ronnie Seibutis got a chance to start and had a solid game with 9 points, 2 rebs, 2 assists, and a steal which is better than Keith Mcleod did. I wish the Mavs would find some room for this guy and Reyshawn Terry already, whatever their doing overseas can be done here, and they can't be any worse than some of the dead weight that the Mavericks had on the roster last season.

Honorable Mentions: Pape Sow, Derrick Low , Aaron Miles, and Reggie Williams.

Dishonorable Mentions: Keith Mcleod and James Singleton.

More on these 6 guys next time.

-Cheers!

Trade with the Clippers in the mix?

Well I'm sure there are more than a few fingers in Dallas and maybe even in L.A. that are crossed on that one... there haven't been any rumors spreading around, but everyone has to wonder what Rick Carlisle and Mike Dunleavy were talking about yesterday during the SL game, whatever the conversation was pertaining to looked extremely interesting, and looked like Dunleavy was leading the conversation with some serious concerns, hey maybe I'm just reading something into nothing, but let's hope this has something to do with a certain "new" German and him coming to Dallas to join the Mavs squad.

Time for the game! notes on the SL thus far coming later.

Thursday, July 10, 2008

Good Lord Man!

I am getting Psyched about the start of the Summer League, I cannot wait...
expect to see coverage and more updates from me.

-B

You will be missed Lue!

Well.. not really,
Nothing personal against Tyronn, but his decision to go with the Suns is in no way
making or breaking the Mavs, pretty much like his signing.
he was a nice enough guy though, so good luck in Phoenix, and don't let Shaq intimidate you!

Friday, July 4, 2008

An Interesting combination.

Even though I had already heard that Chris Kaman was going to be teaming up with Dirk Nowitzki and team Germany for the Olympics, I hadn't considered what a presence he would be on the Mavericks roster, and frankly I was too full of beer and barbecue to think about it.
but that didn't stop some other MFFL from suggesting a trade for him, keep your eyes peeled,
maybe something can bring the big man to Dallas.

Cheers!

Dallas- Where welcome back Desagana Diop, we're sorry we traded you happens.

By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
esefko@dallasnews.com

The Mavericks have addressed a need and a want in the early stages of free agency.

They needed a big man and they got him Wednesday, agreeing to terms with former Maverick DeSagana Diop on a multiyear deal that starts at whatever salary the full mid-level exception is, an NBA source said. Most NBA executives expect it to be around $5.5 million

That is a spot of great news, we all love Diop.. unfortunately that MLE is gone now! so what do the Mavs do? They've got a real center now, they've got a solid back up for Dirk, they've got a pretty decent SG lineup now, only a few more pieces, and I might be back excited about this new season.

Old Faces, new faces.

So apparently JJ Barea, Eddie Jones and Desagana Diop and possibly even Eduardo Najera are currently in discussions regarding playing for the Mavs again, unfortunately getting Diop back will most likely involve our entire MLE, but the great thing is its the first step in Cuban fixing the boo boos in his ridiculous dream trade from earlier in the season, the immediate firing of Avery Johnson and then the refusal to change the lineup clearly states, that none of this was any fault of the players and all Avery's fault... or so Cuban thinks.

In any case Gerald Green or as I like to call him "the poor guy that didn't stand a chance against Dwight "Superman" Howard in the Dunk Competition" (its just a little pet name.) has verbally agreed to sign a 1-year deal with the Mavs, this could be interesting as I am pretty sure this would make him the youngest SG on the Mavs roster, maybe he'll become a starter and show true potential, the way I see it, he likes to dunk, Kidd loves alley oop passes, Howard could be great again, Dirk will alway be Dirk, Diop is going to be back, we've got ourselves an Ok starting line up.

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

New month, no significant changes yet.

So free agency officially begins, there's is all kinds of crazy rumors surrounding teams not named the Mavs, players opting out having people calling them left and right, every team going after guys like Baron Davis, Josh Smith, Andre Igoudala, Corey Maggette, Josh childress, Ben Gordon, Gilbert Arenas and Beno Udrih, everyone except the mavs, maybe because we are too content with are ever aging roster, I'm just saying make a push for Chris Andersen, Sebastian Telfair, and Matt Barnes.. doesn't sound like much.. but it's better than a group of old guys that tried to ride the pine to a ring... we can't all be Sam Cassell. :0
